Most people have seen a weathervane on top of some tall building at some point or another. For the most part people ignore these somewhat antiquated devices as nothing more than aesthetically pleasing and who can blame them? When you consider the technology that we have available these days, there is no reason why we should care about weathervanes as something other than ornamental. But that is the exact reason why we should care. There are so many different kinds of weathervanes out there today that can brighten up a home or building that it would be silly to ignore them. Whether it is a horse weathervane or something more classic, they can be quite interesting. A horse weathervane may sound a little strange when you consider all the different kinds of weathervanes that are available these days. The weathervane is a rather ancient idea that has been around for quite some time. The reason is quite simply because the weathervane is a simple little construct that is quite useful. For those people who need to know, it can give you an indication of which way the wind is blowing and, in some cases, may even be able to give you an indication of just how fast the wind is blowing. Granted, the amount of information that can be garnered from one is limited at best, but it was something. These days they do not really use horse weathervanes anymore. While there may still be a horse attached somewhere, the aesthetic approach sort of detracts from the construct's ability to effectively tell people what the wind is doing. Most weathervanes these days are meant for a purpose and are built for that purpose. Simple arrows and such are the usual construction and these arrows are connected to intricate reading devices that tell you which way the wind is blowing and how fast the wind is blowing. So much for aesthetic value. But the good news is that while there are people who want to use weathervanes for readings and find horse weathervanes just plain silly, there are also people who still adore weathervanes in all their shapes and forms. There are people who make it their life's work to come up with the most beautiful and amusing weathervanes that you are likely to find in the world. Expertly crafted with the little letters of the four directions beneath its swiveling top, these weathervanes hark back the days when all you needed to tell which way the wind was blowing was a piece of metal on a cross. A horse weathervane is one of many designs. Most people think of a rooster or an arrow. But then again, most people do not consider putting a weathervane on their house, garage or barn. For the people who like the extraordinary and who want a touch of the old world as part of their homes then a weathervane is the ideal thing. It is also useful to tell which way the wind is blowing.
